I learned a lot since I have entered the Master’s Program at Walden.

One of the deep felt learning from the program, I learned how to connect with many individuals,  colleagues, professors, and etc.  As well of learning how to support my colleagues and offer great assistance in working along with them in classes. My learning abilities from this program allowed me to recognize who as I was an educator.

Becoming a educator inside of the program has taught me the importance of diversity. It allowed for me want to become a better person for children and be an advocate.

One of my long term goals is : Becoming more involved inside of my communities. I want to open up more programs for children including after school. Those programs will be affordable for parents. I want to develop a plan in helping out with poverty as well.

Goodbye colleagues ! It has been such a journey of working along with everyone. I have enjoyed getting to know you guys through each class that we have cross. I have seen the passion each person have for the Early Childhood Field.  I want to wish you guys the best in completing the course. I know we all have our challenges, however, the finish line is here. Congratulations you made it !

Jobs/Roles in the ECE Community: Internationally

In doing my research for communities of practice there all a couple of international organization I came across :

ALSC-Association for Library Service to Children 

The ALSC Liaison with National Organizations Committee works to build liaison relationships with national organizations who serve children and youth and who share similar goals to ALSC.  Committee members work with these organizations to make them aware of ALSC’s activities and goals, and to involve themselves in the activities of these organizations (Association for Library Service to Children).

Their job opportunities includes becoming a member in which it mentions :

ALSC’s member leaders carry out the work of the Association, developing valuable programs, publications, and resources for youth librarians. Most committees require in-person meetings at ALA Annual Conference and Midwinter Meeting, but some committees include virtual positions and a few function almost entirely virtually (Association for Library Service to Children).

The skills you would need is having experience in working with children and meeting the qualifications of being a candidate.

Association for Childhood Education International 

The Association for Childhood Education International their purpose is to promote innovations solutions to education challenges and inspire actions that would create positive, sustainable futures for children and youth worldwide (Association for Childhood Education International).

Association for Childhood Education International offers a membership that will help expand your knowledge about children’s education around the world. Also, as a educator you can share many experiences, networks with different educators, and receive information and resources.

The website doesn’t include any job opportunities.

Childhood Fund International 

Childhood Fund International mission is deprived, excluded and vulnerable children have the capability to improve their lives to become young adults, parents, and leaders who bring lasting and positive change to the communities.  I chose this organizations because it is related to the challenge I am working on. It supports ways for poverty in education. The job opportunities includes having advance degree that is related to the Social Science or equivalent with 5 years of more experience.

National/Federal Level

In researching national and federal organizations I felt connected to the ones that lead me to purse the goal as a Early Childhood Worker.

The first one was National Head Start Association (NHSA). https://nhsa.org/

I chose them because I always wanted to work in the Head Start environment because I believe a could be teacher there. As well of helping children in the beginning stages on their education. The website includes you to become a member.

There are a lot of job opportunities for working along in the National Head Start Association.

A few would with job responsibilities includes :

  • Program director -Assists the Director with the overall administration of the agency and its programs.
  • Teacher Rover-You will have to work inside a classroom to motivate pupils to develop skills attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation in accordance with each pupil’s ability.
    establish good relationships with parents and with other staff members.
  • Early Childhood Director- You have to lead the administrator of the school and handles problems with staff and students.

Zero to Three has a membership you can join as well. I chose them because infants and toddler are children I always seen myself working with. I enjoy working with younger because you can teach them so much.

Two of there job opportunities that I would want to work for :

  • Infant Toddler Assistant Teacher  : Assists the lead teacher in teaching and planning high-quality infant-toddler learning environment using a responsive relationship approach to learning that incorporates research-based experiences in early language acquisition, numeracy, science, social-emotional development, and creative expression, problem-solving and physical development (Zero to Three).
  • Pediatric Healthy Steps Specialist :Ability to work with people of many cultures, take initiative and willingness to learn, work well in both team and independent settings, and able to collect and enter data for program, evaluation and reporting purposes.

I really chose this organization because it relates to my Capstone Project. It has a membership along to ensure the help of children.

National Association for the Education of Homeless Children and Youth represents the excellent for children and youth that are experiencing being homeless (NAECHY).

The job it offers is becoming a educator of working along with children to help ensure their needs are being meet. Supporting their families in every step along the way.

I hope in the near future my abilities leads me to working along the side of one those jobs.

Exploring Roles in the ECE Community: Local and State Levels

The IDEA Partnership at the National Association of State Directors of Special Education :  As I was doing the assignment this organization came across my research. It focus on, The Communities of Practice approach offers state agency personnel a promising approach for engaging stakeholder groups in collaboratively solving complex, and often, persistent problems in special education (IDEA). The job opportunities it offers for teachers : Teacher quality is a major investment in both general education and special education. Licensing officials are charged with planning and implementing teacher quality efforts (IDEA).

National Association for the Education of Young Children :  I have always been a fan of this great website and organization because it offers so much different information. One of  my favorite ones for local and state organizations. The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) is a professional membership organization that works to promote high-quality early learning for all young children, birth through age 8, by connecting early childhood practice, policy, and research. We advance a diverse, dynamic early childhood profession and support all who care for, educate, and work on behalf of young children (NAEYC). The job opportunities it offers for a person to have a Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 5 – 7 years related experience conducting sales, ideally for memberships with an association. I would considered this a great opportunity for someone who wants to work along in this field. I wouldn’t mind myself.

Mercy WorldWide: I have come across another interesting great website as well of this one helping me obtain great information for my Capstone Project. MERCY WORLDWIDE works together in partnership to maximize efforts to provide relief and care to those in underprivileged conditions, with a special focus on youth.  MERCYWORLDWIDE’s vision is to provide compassionate service that will transform the lives of the world’s most poor, sick, and vulnerable. They live by the mantra, Compassion in Action. As a global organization, we are dedicated to raising awareness of the humanitarian issues we all face as global citizens, providing long term solutions to address some of these issues, and communicating good news about how the efforts are having an impact (MercyWorldWide).  There really wasn’t no job opportunities offer with this one.

Reflect on Learning

As the course is ending the most passionate hope I have for being an Early Childhood Professional is continuing to pursing my goal in working in this field. In being a educator inside of this field is making sure I reach all my goals I have set for working with children.

I would continue on learning about the ways of including everyone child in not leaving one person out. As of learning the differences on how children will have varying disabilities and making sure others treat them equal.

Including children and families in I would make sure that all their educational needs are being met. Providing them with the extracurricular activities and after school programs. I would make sure they have the proper tools to help them. I would providing a communication logs so they can address any concern they might have inside the classroom or the teacher.

I would like to send a special thank you to all of my colleagues for always being supportive and giving me positive feedback on blogs. I wish you guys the best in your next course. We are almost at the finish line !!!

Impacts on Early Emotional Development

The region I decide to study was Jamaica.

One of the challenges that are taking place inside of this region is child victims are in abuse. Some children have came into contact and conflict with the law and benefit from improved child protection services.

Another confronting concerns by 2016, 50 percent of the most vulnerable adolescent boys and girls in the ages 10-18 are part of the targeted communities. In which it leads the children through life skills, access to quality healthcare services and contribute to decision making in the communities

These experiences might have an effect on the welling being by having children being with draw from wanting to talk to other people.

Also, children that goes through abuse have a hard time of staying focus in being scared to be around individuals.

My personal connection I have made towards the early childhood field. Is paying close attention to the children and notice if any thing may be different towards them.  My professional connection towards the early childhood field is making sure children are getting help in these situations.

The Sexualization of Early Childhood

One of the examples that forms the levels Sexualization is the images that many t.v. show plays across the channels. In today society the tv stations are exposing children to a lot of different things.

Another example of sexualization is the graphic and illustrations that children play on video games. The games shows every possible way of characters being in a very graphic form in which sees the details of the characterization.

I experience on altercation while I was working inside a summer camp program in where the young boys was telling another boy to touch him in his “private part”. That was a very challenging situation to deal with.

These might have implications on child healthy development because it will allow for children to think these things are fine because they are being expose to many differ visuals and views.

How I would expose to the negative impact on children by removing those issues from children. I would tell their parents to not allow for their children to watch those cartoons and channels that shows so much sexual and vivid images.

The ways awareness has been modified sexualization by watching the course videos and the reading resources. It allowed for me to get a better understanding relating to the Early Childhood Field.

Evaluating Impacts on Professional Practice

The families that I may work might experience (isms) when their child is inside the classroom. Students can misjudged another child by the race. That is when racism takes place.

When a children family can be concern about the way a teacher carries their image because of what type of person that is teaching their children. It becomes a problem within sexism because of the family misjudging someone from their outside appearance.

They may affect my emotional well being because of having connections with those individuals who is the opposite of race.

I love people and have connections with individuals of all different races.

Observing Commuication

The type of place the communication is at a park.

Its between a mother and her daughter

What I learned from the conversation was the little girl was having a problem with another child at the park. The little ran to her mother and let her know what was going on.  However, the little girl was talking to her mom but she wasn’t fully listening to her because she was holding a conversation on the phone.

What could have been more effective was the mother paying attention to the little girl. Asking the little girl what was the conflict between her and the child. I believe the little girl was feeling sad that her mother wasn’t giving her the attention to addressed the problem.

Conversations with the adults communicating with children can have different approaches.  When I am listening to younger children. I always make sure I grab the attention of asking them exactly what is wrong. If I see them not looking to happy, I always them are they okay and if they are sure.

 

 

 

Creating Affirming Environments

If I had an Family Child Care Home, the description I would give it very colorful and elegant.

My setting would include tables in which it would be four per table. I learned that you can’t have to many children at one time. Only because they would tend to come across minor problems.

Each table would be name a different color. I would always call the students by the color of their tables.

I would have an area where they would keep their personal belongings which probably will be a cabby. Over their cabby would be cabinet where they would keep snacks and extra things for class.

Inside of my Family Child Care Home, I would include some kind of discipline information to keep track of their behavior so they could be rewarded on Fridays. This helps me and the children by allowing them to see their growth in the home. Which involves respecting others, keeping on task, and performing along in the home.
